Wildfire Risk to Carbon

Wildfire Risk to Carbon is a free, easy-to-use website that presents scientific information illustrated by maps of forest and rangeland carbon in the continental U.S., along with the risk to these carbon resources from wildland fires and estimates of average annual smoke emissions. Estimates of carbon and carbon risk are growing more important due to current legislation and emerging private carbon markets. Estimation of smoke emissions is critical to projecting wildfire impacts to human health. The website is designed to assist private landowners, public land managers, and others in understanding and estimating carbon risk from wildfire. The website launched in 2025.
